Tanmeyah Launches Training Dialogue Series to Promote Green Finance Engagement
As part of the initiative “Empowering the Microfinance Sector to Lead Green Finance Engagement,” Tanmeyah – the network of microfinance institutions in Jordan – in partnership with SANAD Fund, organized a series of virtual and field-based training sessions aimed at enhancing the capacities of microfinance institutions and expanding sustainable finance across Jordan.
The first phase of the initiative began with introductory virtual sessions, which presented the core concepts of green finance and highlighted global and regional trends, aiming to build a shared knowledge base among sector employees.
This was followed by field training sessions in Irbid, Ajloun, and Salt, targeting microfinance institution staff. These sessions focused on designing eco-friendly financial products, developing innovative solutions to support small and medium enterprises in addressing climate change challenges, and encouraging local communities to launch green projects with developmental impact.
The phase concluded with an extended closing session in Amman, attended by representatives from the Central Bank of Jordan, various government ministries and institutions, the private sector, international partners, and local and global experts. The session reviewed the outcomes of the training sessions, discussed key challenges and opportunities, and identified practical sector needs to advance the adoption of green finance more broadly.
Key Recommendations and Outcomes
- Strengthening capacity building and knowledge development within microfinance institutions.
- Developing green financial products aligned with local market needs.
- Documenting public-private partnerships to support sustainable finance.
- Conducting awareness workshops for clients to raise environmental and financial literacy.
- Pursuing financial facilitation and guarantees to support green products.
- Facilitating experience sharing among institutions to enhance practical implementation and innovation.
This training series represents a pivotal step toward building a more sustainable microfinance ecosystem in Jordan, paving the way for the second phase of the initiative, which will cover additional governorates to expand the adoption of green finance policies in practice.
